We've really enjoyed the food in Krakow. You can get foods from just about any country, but we've been choosing to eat Polish foods almost every meal. It's tasty and a bit heavy, so one lunch we sat outside in a cafe that had pizza on the menu, and that really hit the spot. We were going to order cokes with it, but noticed coke was more expensive than beer! So, 2 beers it was. When the waitress delivered our food, she asked if we'd like suckers with the beer. We knew she meant straws, because the first night we arrived, they delivered our beer with two straws in each.
When the pizza arrived, it came with two bottles of olive oil, one regular, one with hot peppers. Deliciouso!
The meals here are very cheap. Medium pizza, plus two .5 litre glasses of beer: 30.50 zloty, or approx $10.00.
Beer without suckers:
Beer with suckers (delivered with one pink, one brown in each glass -- didn't try them!):
"The House Special" at our favourite restaurant -- Doroty's, a small, modest place run by three women and frequented by locals. The special consists of two crispy potato pancakes with goulash sandwiched between them and smothered in beautiful sauce. Add a dollop of sour cream and a wee bit of lettuce on the side. Yummy and filling. I also ordered soup of the day -- a fantastic cucumber soup, piping hot and one of the best soups I've had.
