Hot walk again today (Mo 23 Sep) to Caldadilla de la Cueza

Another hot day (high of 31) walking through the Meseta.   Our umbrellas once again helped make us quite comfortable and Jan found a new use for hers.

Grain elevator under the moon in the early morning.  Full of wheat no doubt. The Spaniards love their pan (bread), almost always white, crusty and tasty and served at every meal in a basket:

Huge mosaic on side of building:

We often head out without breakfast and stop at a spot after an hour or two of walking.  We skipped the first cafe we saw in the town we were in as it looked very crowded, but nothing else open in the town, so we eventually stopped at a gas station with attached coffee shop/bar and ordered two cafes con leche. Place was packed inside and out with single men hanging out.  I suspect it was an unofficial temp labour place, where hopefuls wait for someone to come by looking for help in construction or the harvest:

Someone had the forethought to plant this long row of trees and provide shade for the Camino path.  It was very much appreciated:

With the paths so long and straight, and no services for kilometers, it's hard to answer nature's call discretely -- another great use for an umbrella!

Our first flock of sheep in a long time.  Slim pickings in this field:

Shepherd with his dogs, perhaps wondering where next to bring the flock:

First dog we've seen doing the Camino -- with a trio from Spain. Dogs aren't welcome at most albergues; perhaps they are tenting:

Our dorm. One of the larger ones, 80 people in two rooms.  We prefer the smaller albergues, but it was the only game in town. Also, no market in town, so everyone had to eat at the town's only restaurant -- pretty much a captive audience, but the food was good and the price was reasonable.

The albergue has a nice courtyard, with a pool.  Seemed out of place, but lots of people cooled off in it:
